This post was inspired out of some of the things I was seeing in the spiritual community. There are so many myths perpetuated that are just, really pure baloney. And we need to ditch them. So come join me in kicking them to the curb!
Ditch the Myths – These spiritual myths are pure baloney, Don’t believe them.
There are two HUGE myths for you to ditch about being spiritual. I’ve had to deal with them, and even fight myself against them. They are just pure baloney. Trust me. Don’t believe them.
Spiritual Myths, Number One: You have to be spiritual 100% of the time.
Wrong! You don’t have to be spiritual 100% of the time.
Listen, I am spiritual. I meditate. Pray. Do the work. I work to help others with their spiritual life. But I also sit on my butt and play video games with my husband. And I enjoy it!
Spirituality is only one aspect of your life. Maybe you have a corporate job that makes you happy. Or maybe you have kid(s) and being their parent gives you fulfillment. Spirituality can be used to enhance your life if you want to add it to the mix. It can be one more thing that gives you strength to overcome challenges and hardships. But you don’t have to devote your whole life to it in order to feel spiritually fulfilled and lead a happy and full life.
If spirituality isn’t adding to your life, and is in fact creating even more strain and stress for you because you feel that you need to be spiritual 100% of the time to be fulfilled, then let it go!
It is totally okay. You don’t have to be 100% spiritual all the time. You don’t even have to be spiritual at all if it isn’t your thing.
Spiritual Myths, Number Two: You have to do X in order to be spiritual.
I picked the image for this post for a reason. You don’t have to sit and meditate on a beach in order to be spiritual. You don’t have to do yoga. You don’t have to get in touch with your inner child. Etc.
Of course, I would love to be able to spend some time on a beach. My heart is a sunny ocean beach. But there is no one way to be spiritual. There is no one set of rules for being spiritual. People can tell you how to be spiritual all they want, but it is up to you to decide what that means for you.
The only caveat here is that: certain spiritual traditions will have outlines on how to be spiritual. So if you are part of a spirituality that has some traditions, outlines, or requirements, then you will have to take those into account. But those rules are for that spiritual system, not for all spiritualities.
It is totally okay if being spiritual for you doesn’t look like what it does for the next person. Being spiritual encompasses so many things! Find out what works for you.
And most of all: Just do you and live your life! ❤
