For Elizabeth, writing was her home. She explained that this home was built on the sweet spot between the extremes of success and failure. (Hint: This is where to build your home!) It was the one thing that gave her so much fulfillment that she kept coming back to it, even when she failed at it and even when she had major success.
This begged the question, what was my thing? What was my home?
At the time, while I was watching the talk, I came up blank.
It wasn’t until I was reading her book, Big Magic, when my mind triggered back to something unrelated and it said “I’ve got this! This is the thing!” My brain was waving its little arms and flashing neon lights at me.
Before I tell you, I want you to take a moment and try to guess what it was. Go on. I’ll wait.
Did you make your guess?
Give yourself a pat on the back if you guessed receiving and giving soul messages.
That is the thing I could pour myself into. That I could build my home on.
When I receive messages, an almost overwhelming sense of peace and unconditional love fills me. I feel confident and secure. I feel a great sense of faith in the message. It is a similar feeling, but not quite the same, as falling asleep next to my husband the first couple nights of our honeymoon.
This remains to be tested extensively, but I believe that with this home, I can bare through not only life’s extremes, but also the things I cannot change in my life at this moment.
In this space, I can shine.
What an epiphany right?
And it all came full circle! Before the beginning of Summer, Eat Pray Love helped me to work through some of the things I was feeling. (You can read about that here.) Then after the end of Summer, Big Magic helped me just a little bit more with those same things.
Now it is my turn to do the work! And what beautiful work it will be.
I want to hear from you! What can you build your home upon? Or where have you built it? Share it in the comments below!
